The quote from Murakami’s short story, “Super-frog Saves Tokoyo,” is significant because it exposes the toxic trait of the Id discreetly. The vivid description of the worm’s growth symbolizes Freud’s concept of the Id, and the reckless action/thoughts the Id could cause. Furthermore, the quote shows the amount of influence the Id can have on society/an individual. For example, according to Freud’s “The Id,” it states, “It is filled with energy reaching it from the instincts, but it has no organization, produces no collective will, but only a striving to bring about the satisfaction of the instinctual needs subject to the observance of the pleasure principle”(Freud n.p). This shows how manipulative and controlling the Id can be, which is depicted by the quote through the growth of the worm and hidden ambitions stored inside it that symbolize inner evils in everyone’s heart. In addition, the depiction of the image of the brain having an unknown “dark side” represents how destructive the Id could be without one truly being aware. Overall, the quote makes it evident that individuals have a “dark side” that can be destructive to themselves and society.
Analyze The Image (08/25/2021)
The painting by Andre Brouillet indicates male supremacy in every aspect of life including female health and anatomy. The painting seems to show a male individual explaining to his male audience how to diagnose/understand the female body. Furthermore, the painting indicates this is a meeting of male doctors to specifically discuss the female body since the painting on the far left side shows another painting of a woman arching her back as if she was “possessed.” It is unfair that male doctors are not incorporating more females and their opinions into their discussion. Males and females have different body structures and have different experiences from each other with their bodies, it would only be fair if they were to consider a female’s opinion into the discussion as well. In essence, the painting makes it obvious that the “norm” during this period was males were considered to be most important and were in charge of both their and the female’s bodies.
Rhetorical Situation of Your Image Discussion (09/23/2021)
The social media image chosen represents the rhetorical situation of an event that occurred in the past and compares it to now. The image illustrates the downfall of the soccer team Fc Barcelona. The image relates a specific event from the past where it showcases the superior mentality the team once had. However, the image compares the events occurring now which depicts the team’s weak mentality. This relates to Bitzer’s Rhetorical Situation because he describes that typically a sense of discourse is caused by the rhetorical situation, “I want to know the nature of those contexts in which speakers or writers create rhetorical discourse” (Bitzer 1). The social media post invites a rhetoric discourse because the image is making a comparison that invites the audience to agree with the creator’s perspective, and also persuade other viewers who may not share the same perspective.
